Nasal polyp

The word name of polyp is many footed. Nasal polyps are prolapsed pedunculated nasal mucosa which is painless and white in colour.

Depending upon its origin they are

  • Ethmoidal: allergic in origin
  • Unilateral
  • Bilateral

Major symptoms include

  • Nasal obstruction
  • Headache
  • Discharge
  • Sneezing
  • Fever
  • Loss of smell and taste
  • Facial pain

Major causes

  • Allergy
  • Infection
  • Changes in polysaccrides which form the mucosa
  • Increased pressure on the walls of nasal mucosa


In ayurveda this condition is named as nasarsas, a condition in which nose get blocked with mucosal material. this is mentioned in classics. Scholar susruta had mentioned different methods to treat this condition without side effects and without recurrence
